The Required Steps to Stay Healthy

Author: Gen Wright

With all the epidemics regarding viruses and disease not enough attention is being brought forward about an especially crippling disease that is preventable. By taking responsibility for your own health and the decisions you make in terms of how you treat your body, we can all ward off this illness that leads to so many medical conditions and even premature death.

So what exactly is this epidemic that is preventable but affects so many people? It is simply physical inactivity. Fifty percent of the people in the world are affected by their inability to remain active and suffer from a number of related diseases and medical conditions. Of the other fifty percent there is still a fair number of people that are not as healthy as they could be if they just took care of themselves better. Inactivity can also lead to fatigue and an entire lack of motivation.

It is time to face the facts. At least sixty percent of our nation is in fact overweight. This percentage puts a serious strain on our resources and health care causing illness and premature death. Over the next 10 years it is predicted that close to 400 million people will die to their lack of physical activity and the effects of being overweight.

Laziness has taken over our entire culture from children right on up to senior citizens. In just the past few decades the average life span for children being born today has decreased by somewhere between 20 and 30 years. This is the legacy that we have chosen to leave behind. With all our great technology and inventions, the major contribution we have made to society is an inherent laziness and lack of exercise. Is this really something we should settle for? We need to take a stand now.

We can start by providing a healthy example for our children to follow. We need to teach our younger citizens not only the value of staying healthy but exactly how to do it. Teach them what to do in order to live a disease free life. If we do not provide younger citizens with this knowledge then we run the risk of depreciating the value of society even more. Disease will continue to conquer us as more and more people will be affected by cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

What many people do not understand is the fact that our bodies are designed to be active. Our bodies are meant to perform activity and be stimulated as much as possible. It is this stimulation that allows our hormones to work and the cells within our body to remain healthy and reproduce. Without the stimulation that activity offers the body, cells and tissues will start to deteriorate and this is when the body is susceptible to disease.

The good news is that this is not a lost cause. We have the power and the information to change things in the years to come. We know what needs to be done to improve our health and the health of our children, but the government is not taking the necessary action. What could be the reason for this? Is the money that is generated through medi-care and hospitals more important than society's health?

We must start taking action in order to implement change. We must first begin by looking after ourselves and our families. We need to stop being so dependent on doctors and pharmaceutical products and start taking more beneficial steps towards our well being. Just engaging in regular activity and eating a balanced diet can go a long way to fight off disease even more than most doctor prescribed remedies.

We are hardwired as people to not want the fear of life threatening illnesses in our lives. This is why we need to inform people of the dangers that coincide with inactivity. Once people are aware of the serious problems that can occur when they are inactive they will be much more likely to take action and make a positive change in their life.

It is time for you to decide to make this change. Once you make the change then you can start helping other people make positive steps. Make your health and fitness regime a priority and do things properly. A simple walk to the store or cutting out that chocolate bar late at night will not make the difference you are seeking out.

Can you imagine the changes we can make if we all take action to become healthier? No more spending millions of dollars a year on unnecessary operations. Think of the more appropriate places that this money can be spent and the positive changes we can make as long as we make a commitment to our personal well-being.
