Many people suffer from the misconception that defining a smaller niche market means narrowing their sales or cutting down on profit. Having a well-defined target audience will help you design the perfect marketing strategy that will work for that particular target market. Knowing who exactly you are marketing to helps you understand where to invest your time and money while marketing your product or service.

For example, if you are selling a car or a new coffee maker that extracts the caffeine out of every bean, you need to know who your customers will be. You cannot wish to sell your car to everyone interested in buying a car or presume that everyone who drinks coffee would like to increase their caffeine intake. You need to think of which socio-economic group your potential clientèle falls under. In case of the car, you need to keep in mind the features, pricing and facilities your product offers and who will be interested in buying it. Everyone that wishes to buy a car may not be interested in the magnificent features that your car has. A middle class man that needs a car for basic transport does not need the various fancy options that your car provides. He simply needs a vehicle to take him from one place to another, making his job easier. On the other hand, if you are selling the new coffee maker, your niche market will most probably be the lower or middle income groups, as they try to make the most out of every penny spent and therefore would like to extract maximum caffeine out of their coffee beans.

There are a number of different types of internet niche marketing strategies. Make sure you research them and are thorough before you invest in your online business.
