Steps

  1. As soon as possible after the spill, get a cloth, such as a washrag. Wet a corner of the cloth with rubbing alcohol.
  2. DAB the wet rag over the ink spot repeatedly, occasionally re-wetting the cloth with more alcohol.
  3. Repeat this method until the stain is gone

Tips

  • If you routinely use ink for mechanical pens, transport them around your work area inside of a bowl or other container. This way if you do spill, you are more likely to spill in your bowl than on the carpet.
  • Keep washrags and alcohol on hand and near by. Accidents will happen.
my old "brother Mfc-210C printer" started leaking YELLOW ink (from the bottom of the printer) onto my tan/white carpet!!! and it would not come out for days. maintenance men came up to look at it and told me they 95% sure it wouldn't come out. i was so upset... and i was so worried because i'm leasing this studio, so it doesnt belong to me. so if i couldn't get the stain out, the money would be taken from my security deposit...okay it took a while to get the stein out but i did it. I kind of did some no-no's, but it worked after a WHILE. first i would spray the carpet with Oxy Spray every day and leave a towel over it because the bottle says "spray generously to dampen, holding sprayer 12 inches (30 cm) from the stained area. do not scrub or blot the treated stain. just spray and walk away. allow area to dry. Oxyspray will gradually break down and remove the stain."but it wasn't coming out quick enough... so I did a combination of a few tricks. (all in a matter of minutes...)
  1. vinegar and baking soda... then a few minutes later...
  2. scrubbing the stain with oxyclean powder.... then a few minutes later....
  3. taking my bleach pen and mixing it with water and leaving it on the stain for a few minutes... then a few minutes later....
  4. scrubbing the carpet with soap and water... then let the towel absorb all the water thats in the carpet.
  5. then, spray the carpet with Oxy Spray and let it sit there.
the fabric in that area doesnt look as tight and new as the rest of the carpet. you can tell it looks fuzzy and worn. but i dont see yellow any more! it took a while for the stain to go away with just the oxyspray alone. i would recommend steps 1-4 above if you don't mind making your carpet look a little scruffy. just be careful because everyone is going to tell you something different. a lot of people will say, just let the professionals do it... (but you have to pay them something like $150 whether they get the stain out or not....waste of money!) Some people will even tell you, stop putting more chemicals into your carpet, you'll just ruin it.... okay maybe you'll scruff it up a bit, and make the carpet look really fuzzy, but ignore them. because the stuff i used wasnt HARD chemicals necessarily. and i washed it out quickly with water, so its not like a million chemicals were just soaking into my carpet.

Warnings

  • Make sure you DO NOT rub the rag over the ink spot; this will only push it deeper into the carpet fibers!
  • Do not pour the alcohol directly on the stain as this will spread the ink.
