When it comes to finding low car insurance , parents with teenage drivers can often have a difficult time.
This is because of statistics showing that 16-year-old drivers typically have higher crash rates than any other age group, while automobile accidents are said to be the leading cause of death in the 15 to 20 age group.
These and other statistics were recently cited by the Insurance Information Institute as it offered parents some tips on ways to ensure that their young drivers are as safe as they can be.
"Even the best teenage drivers dont have the judgment that comes from experience. It affects their recognition of, and response to, hazardous situations and results in dangerous practices such as speeding and tailgating," said the institute's Loretta Worters, adding that teens are also more prone to engage in risky behavior such as eating or talking on cell phones while driving.
Parents who want to ensure the highest safety standards can begin by making sure their teenagers are driving a safe car, according to the institute. Other tips include having them complete drivers education and road safety classes.
