Dolby Laboratories and SIM2 Multimedia revealed a new prototype high-dynamic-range (HDR)-enabled LCD flat-screen display that uses Dolby's new light emitting diodes (LED) local dimming technology.

Dolby's HDR technology uses LED-based backlight units (BLUs) to provide increased contrast and brightness for a high-quality image, says the company.

Dolby collaborated on the prototype with SIM2, which designed and developed the BLU that drives the electronics of the LCD display plus the BLU and BLU thermal management system. SIM2 will also provide Dolby with manufacturing reference designs.

The prototype is a 46-inch LCD with 1,838 LEDs, a 1920x1080 resolution at a native 16:9 aspect ratio, brightness greater than 4,000 cd/m2, and a luminance uniformity of more than 95 percent through the panel. A Xilinx Virtex field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) chipset is also included, which enables the implementation of Dolby's HDR algorithms in the SIM2 display.

When you selected another application and released Command-Tab, that application would come to the foreground in Exposé mode, revealing all its windows. Alternatively, you could release just the Command key, and cycle through all your applications (while still in Exposé mode) by just pressing the Tab key.
