It is alright to indulge in such foods on occasion, but people who do so frequently might find themselves needing to get a CT angiography. The CT angiography is an outpatient procedure wherein the blood vessels of the person are checked for irregularities such as aneurysms.

It is important to note that poor diet choices are not the only reasons why a person might need a CT angiography. For example, when a person has suffered a head trauma, this scan might be performed to check for clots. Or, some people have various diseases that require them to have this scan done periodically.

But, what is the actual correlation between the CT angiography and poor diet choices? Well, when a person eats extremely fatty foods on a regular basis, the body can only process so much of that additional fat. So, the excess fat migrates to various parts of the body, resulting in obesity.

The fat also ends up being sent through the bloodstream via the heart pumping. However, the more fat that builds up in the arteries, the harder the heart works to pump the blood, thus significantly increasing the risk of getting a heart attack.

Those who have never had this kind of scan before are probably curious to know what the machinery itself looks like. The machinery looks like a large tube with a hole in the middle of it. The patient will be positioned on an examining table that will be pushed back into the tube. The upper part of the tube will rotate around the patient while the scan is taking place.

While the actual scan itself will take, on average, less than a minute to complete, it will take about fifteen minutes to prepare the patient for the scan. First of all, the patient should arrive to the procedure wearing comfortable clothing that does not have any metal in it.

The person should also avoid wearing accessories like hearing aids or glasses that have metal in them as well. If the person does not have any clothing that is without metal in it, then the technician or a nurse will give the patient a medical robe to wear.In some cases, the patient might need to be given a contrast material via an intravenous. The goal of this contrast material is to highlight the specific blood vessels that the machine will be scanning for.

Once this has been completed, the next step is to position the person on the examination table so that he or she will remain completely still during the scan. Pillows might also be given to the patient for comfort. Once the scan has been completed, the technician will make sure that the scans turned out correctly. If they have, then in most cases the patient will be able to resume regular activities.
